May 2002 - Nashua, NH -- Centorr Vacuum Industries, Inc. of Nashua, N.H. has recently shipped a laboratory furnace to the NASA Langley Research Center facility in Virginia.
It was designed for ultra high vacuum operation (10-8 torr range) for induction melting of special alloy materials. The system has pro-visions for the "in house" addition of standard accessories for future expansion of the laboratory.
These accessories include interchangeable resistance heated hot zones, both graphite and refractory metal, designed to operate at specific temperatures for the requirements of NASA. The system may be used for a multitude of metallurgical applications, including heat treat, braze, anneal, temper, and quench.
The high vacuum furnace features all stainless steel construction with all metal seals throughout. This system is representative of many similar systems built by Centorr Vacuum Industries and in-stalled at various NASA facilities around the country.
